Diet and Nutrition

Why see a dietitian?

Dietitians are nutrition experts. They must obtain a 4 year nutrition degree from an accredited program, complete an extensive supervised program often combined with a graduate degree in nutrition, and pass a national registration exam to actively practice. After finishing school and obtaining a license to practice, Dietitians stay up to date with current scientific literature, the evolving trends in the field of nutrition and are required to complete continuous education credits to continue practicing. A dietitian can aid in your journey of adequately nourishing your body to improve energy levels, managing chronic conditions such as diabetes or high cholesterol, leaving diet culture behind and attaining sustainable dietary habits, achieving healthful weight loss or weight gain, or simply to improve your day-to-day nutrition.

Initial Appointment (60 minutes)

This time will be used to conduct a nutritional assessment of your
nutrition history, current lifestyle, dietary habits, and nutrition
related concerns. This will help to personalize your nutrition
education and counseling. The Dietitian will identify beneficial
topics of nutrition education, begin working with you to develop
your nutrition related goals and start building a sustainable action
plan that takes into account your lifestyle, relationship with food,
and dietary preferences. If you have any specific questions you
wish to have answered during this initial assessment, please include
them in your intake form to ensure that they are addressed during

this session.

Follow Up Appointments (30 minutes)
These sessions will focus on one or two main goals and/or
nutrition topics. During this session we will discuss your progress,
determine what aspects of the plan are working for you, and to
explore any difficulties you are experiencing while working towards
your goals. The follow up sessions are focused on providing you
the knowledge and skills to achieve your goals. Your action plan
will be continually evolving through these follow ups as goals are

achieved and new ones are set.
